Why did you become a DJ? For the vast majority of the many DJs I have met, music is the answer. The fact that we can play great songs on big PA systems with brilliant lighting and give people a night to remember is such a privilege, I’m often amazed that I’m being paid to do such a thing!

The main influences on my journey to becoming an award-winning wedding DJ were my mum and dad, and my best friend Neil Irving. Music was ever-present in our house when I was young. My dad played a lot of 60s, whilst my mum had a wide range of music tastes, including pop, reggae and dance. This is where I found a passion for dance music, especially 90s and early 00s trance.

In 2000 I met the love of my life. No, not Everton FC – that was in 1969, the day I was born! The other one, who I married. Then, at the grand old age of 31, I decided I should start a family and plan for my retirement from DJing, so I got a day job and cut my DJ hours to just two nights per week in club residencies.

When you think back to the best gig or concert you’ve ever experienced, what stands out? What made it so special? Perhaps it was the set-list, with that rare track you’ve always wanted to see live. Or perhaps that the staging and production values blew you away. Maybe you’d consumed some, ahem, strong coffee just before the house lights went down.

It was great connecting with everyone at Pro Mobile Conference 2023. I hope you found our time together to be worthwhile and valuable to you in your business. We attend these conferences and retreats in order to disengage from our daily run to do everything for our businesses. So when do we ever find time to look at the 30,000-foot view of this thing called YOUR LIFE?

An article about electrical safety might not at first seem like an exciting read, but I’m here to tell you a short story about something that happened to me earlier this year. And I think you should know the whole story so that you don't risk losing a life – yours or anyone else’s.

At the end of 1984, Band Aid was formed to record ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’. The song was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and recorded in just four days using the biggest stars of the day, who had been persuaded to perform for free on the record that went on to sell three million copies and top the UK charts. The profits from the sales of the song would be used to raise money for the relief of famine in Ethiopia.

Although I’ve been DJing since 1990, for most of that time it’s been a part-time hobby that pays very well. Like most mobile DJs, I didn’t used to worry about how many bookings I was taking, as I had a full-time job in IT. But then, in 2018, I was made redundant.

If you compiled all the newspaper headlines regarding AI (artificial intelligence) over the last year, you'd be forgiven for believing the apocalypse is truly upon us. Of all the tech talking points in 2023, AI has dominated the conversation. Will it steal our jobs? (For some, possibly.) Will it end all of humanity as we know it? (Let's hope not.) Will it help students cheat on their coursework? (Most definitely.)

According to my LinkedIn profile I’ve been contributing to this brilliant publication for four years. In the distant past, I was encouraged by Mastermix’s Richard Lee to get in contact with Pro Mobile’s then editor, Eddie Short, as I had some history as a DJ and a few noteworthy experiences to draw on.

Your DJ booth is one of the first things that guests at any party will see.

Joe public won’t know the difference between a combi and a truss but the booth you select will completely change your overall look and vibe.

I was recently in conversation with a group of wedding DJs who brought up some interesting comments about music trends including a resurgence in popularity of groups like Linkin’ Park, System Of A Down, Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizket.
