Despite all this doom and gloom (some of it warranted), there are many positives to the improvements we've seen in AI in recent years. In fact, it's been helping businesses become more efficient and improve their marketing for a while now, just in ways you might not necessarily realise.

It’s also likely you already use AI in your everyday life. When you're on holiday abroad and you use Google Lens to translate the menu into English to avoid unnecessary confusion with the waiter – that's AI in action. When you’re in the car and ask Alexa to put on some good roadtrip music and it launches Spotify and selects a suitable playlist – that’s AI.

If you scale things back to the basics, and forget about super-computers becoming sentient and taking over the world Matrix-style, then all AI means is computers being able to do 'human stuff'. So while AI isn’t intuitive enough to DJ a party to the same standards as a mobile DJ, it can certainly help with the smaller stuff that all businesses need to do, leaving you to focus on the big stuff.

This year, the company OpenAI made its ChatGPT program available to the public for free. For those who don’t know, ChatGPT is a computer program that can understand and generate text based on a vast database of information that OpenAI has ‘trained’ it on. In layman’s terms, it’s essentially a virtual assistant that you can ask questions or have conversations with.

The great thing about AI-based tools like ChatGPT is that they can help us become more efficient, speeding up those mundane or everyday tasks, or giving us quick answers to complex questions or problems. The range of things that ChatGPT can help with is too vast to list here. The best way to find out is to experiment with the tool (free to try at chat.openai.com) and learn how to get the best from it.

Of course, it isn’t just virtual assistants like ChatGPT that are using AI to make businesses more efficient. There are loads of products, both free and paid for, that incorporate AI to automate processes, make communications clearer, or organise your admin and accounting. Forget the doom and gloom, in 2023 it’s time to embrace the benefits of AI.

Below are some of the ways you can get started with ChatGPT today, as well as four other AI-based tools you can use to help with your business, marketing and communications.

Using ChatGPT for Business

As you now know, ChatGPT is very smart, and you can ask it pretty much anything. This virtual assistant can...
