Gary Evans-Osgood Wins Wedding DJ of the Year 2017
At a glitzy ceremony in London last night (Thursday the 12th of January), Gary Evans-Osgood was announced as the Wedding DJ of the Year 2017 as part of the national Wedding Industry Awards. Beating off stiff competition from the other regional winners in his category, Gary accepted the award in person following a thunderous applause from the assembled crowd of wedding industry professionals.

Recognising excellence across all types of wedding suppliers, the Wedding Industry Awards use a combination of client voting and industry judging to select the winners. The competition begins with nominations from suppliers, followed by a period of voting where their clients from the past year are encouraged to not only rate their performance but submit written testimonials. Each entrant’s application – along with their clients’ votes and testimonials – are then reviewed by a judging panel who select a winner for each area of the country. A further stage of judging then takes place, with the panel revisiting the applications and testimonials of the regional winners, to establish an overall national winner.

This year’s regional winners in the DJ category were Andy Murphy (North West), WDC Entertainment (North East), Premier Entertainment (West Midlands), Jason Gamble (East Midlands), Andy Collins (South West), Nick Chatten (East of England) as well as Gary who won in the London and South East area. The judging panel for the DJ awards was made up of Pro Mobile’s Editor, Eddie Short, as well as past national winners Mark van den Berg and Terry Lewis.

“I’m feeling pretty proud right now after winning the best national wedding DJ award for the TWIA 2017 at Cafe De Paris in London,” Gary told us. “I have worked really hard over the last five years building up my little wedding empire in the UK and it's really nice to see all the hard work pay off. There is no magic bullet, but hard work and surrounding myself with positive like-minded people really has helped me.”

Born and bred in the UK, Gary moved to the United States as a young man, where he lived and worked for several years. He then emigrated to Australia, which is where he first became a DJ and over a period of years honed his craft and began to specialise in weddings. Family ties brought him back to the UK a few years ago, and since returning Gary has built up an enviable reputation as a full-time professional wedding DJ in the Hampshire area.

Gary was a guest on the Pro Mobile Podcast last year and during the interview he shared his full history as well as plenty of tips for aspiring DJs. The programme is still available to stream or download, and is essential listening for any DJ looking to progress their business in 2017.
