Mobile DJ Hopes To Pitch Business Idea To Richard Branson
Scottish mobile DJ Stuart Maclennan, the entrepreneur behind the Subsafe Audio range of speaker protectors, hopes to pitch the company’s concept to Richard Branson with the aim of securing funding and business mentoring. Stuart has entered the Virgin Media Business #VOOM 2016 competition and needs help from fellow DJs to get through the first round.
#VOOM 2016 is a business competition that offers both start-ups and established companies the chance to compete for a share in £1 million of prizes. The first round of the competition is a public vote, following which the 80 entrants with the most votes in each category will progress to the next round. This will involve a 29-hour ‘pitchathon’ in London, which itself will be a Guinness World Record attempt, whittling the contestants down to 40 start-ups and 40 established businesses. Then a two-day Entrepreneur Workshop will involve entrants explaining their ideas to a panel of 12 business professionals who will then select three finalists from each category to progress to the final. This is where they will have the chance to pitch face-to-face with Richard Branson who will award the winners with a £250,000 advertising campaign, a £50,000 cash injection and a host of other help for their business.
Stuart has entered Subsafe in the Start-up category and therefore needs as much help as possible from fellow DJs to ensure that he is in the top 80 when voting closes on the 23rd of May. Voting is quick and easy to do here: https://www.vmbvoom.com/pitches/subsafe-audio-2/.
"Subsafe has been a huge part of my life for a few years now,” Stuart told Pro Mobile. “It all stemmed from guests putting drinks on my expensive subwoofers and an idea for a product to prevent that happening. Through research and design, I have spent countless hours working on the product and now feel ready to grow the product and company. To have the opportunity to pitch to Sir Richard Branson would be a dream come!"
Having officially launched the Subsafe product at BPM last year, the company has already gained many mobile DJ customers across the UK and around the world. Stuart’s entrepreneurial spirit has also started to be recognized by the wider business community, which led to a recent invitation to 10 Downing Street to represent start-ups at a government business meeting.
The Pro Mobile team would like to wish Stuart and Subsafe the best of look in the #VOOM 2016 competition – we’ve all voted, now it’s your turn...
