SEDA Announces Joint SEDABuzz-ShowNight Event
Next month will see the return of SEDA’s annual SEDABuzz training day, which takes place on the 15th of November at usual ShowNight venue, the Bridgewood Manor Hotel in Chatham, Kent. The event will provide mobile DJs – both SEDA members and non-members – with a full day of learning and seminars, as well as the opportunity to network with other DJs.
The 2015 SEDABuzz will mark the first time that the association has hosted its annual training event on the same day as the monthly ShowNight, giving mobile DJs a chance to engage with educational content during the day and then let their hair down for an evening of entertainment and networking.
“SEDAbuzz is our annual workshop event and this year we thought we’d do something slightly different and host it on a Sunday before our ShowNight on the evening,” said SEDA Chairman Ian Forest. “We have four great speakers lined up: Martin Keogh, who is making the trip over from Dublin; Chris Giles, who is an awesome photographer and will help you squeeze the best out of your camera kit; Kevin McNally from FBT, who has a wealth of sound-related knowledge; and Matt Hodkinson from Influence Agents, who’ll help you get the best from social media.”
He added, “SEDAbuzz events are always well attended and offer the perfect opportunity to network with other DJs, so we’d love to see you there, applying your mind during the day and relaxing and enjoying our ShowNight in the evening!”
The SEDABuzz event will run from 10:30am to 4pm and will include a number of seminars varying in content, as well as the BUZZback feature that gives attendees an opportunity to talk to other delegates about DJ-related matters.
Dublin-based wedding DJ Martin Keogh will present a seminar titled ‘Weddings, A Day In The Life...’ as he offers up some tried and tested techniques for those looking to specialise in weddings or improve how they currently operate. With knowledge, training and experience gained from some of finest and most-respected UK and US figures, Martin Keogh will present a fast-paced seminar covering a day in the life of his weddings, sharing valuable information and the approaches he uses.
Elsewhere during the day, FBT’s Kevin McNally will explore how to ‘Optimise your sound system so that YOU stand out as a performer’ in a session intended for everyone from beginners to highly experienced DJs. Whether using their own mobile system or a venue’s permanently installed rig, DJs rely on sound systems to connect with the audience, and in this seminar Kevin will use practical examples to show attendees how best to understand and optimise these system in order to stand out as a performer. Kevin McNally has over 35-years’ experience as a DJ and has also spent 20 years working in pro audio.
Providing attendees with something a little different, photographer and digital artist Chris Giles will be hosting a session titled ‘Low-Light Photography and How to Get the Best Out of Your Kit’. Described as the ‘Swiss Army knife of wedding photography’, Chris specialises in event and low-light photography and in this session will show DJs how to get the best action shots at their gigs and run through basic elements such as ISO, aperture, focal length and spot metering. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own cameras and photography kit.
Industry leading social-media expert Matt Hodkinson will also present a seminar at this year’s SEDABuzz, using his experience as founder of Influence Agents and his research into the best tools and techniques for social media monitoring to provide mobile DJs with some invaluable advice. Matt’s seminar – ‘Using Social Media to Benefit Your Business!’ – will help mobile DJs create or fine-tune the perfect Facebook page, attracting more shares, comments and likes, as well as guide attendees through Twitter and to use it to find new clients. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops, allowing them to engage with the session as it happens!
Tickets for SEDABuzz cost £20.00 for SEDA members and £30.00 for non-members. Tea, coffee and biscuits are included in the cost and provided throughout the day. A three-course carvery lunch is available at the hotel for an additional cost of £17.95, as well as the option of choosing from the bar menu.
