I grew up in a small village on the outskirts of Cambridge. My upbringing included music – lots of music! There wasn’t a day that went by when something wasn't blasting out the stereo at home. My dad was part of a record club at the place he worked. He would join several work colleagues and friends to listen to records and discuss them as a group. This group also ensured that Dad would bring home at least one vinyl album a month, quickly transferred to tape cassette so it could be played to death in the car

As an entrepreneur you experience constant stresses and pressures. Did I get back to that client? Was that timeline updated? The text message I got – was that passed to the right person? How was my email received? It’s a rollercoaster ride of unhealthy emotion for any small business owner and it happens if not on a daily basis then certainly a weekly one. So let’s dig a little deeper and learn how we can handle these entrepreneurial truths more effectively.

I'm nine, maybe 10 years old. It's a bright, cold day. My best mate Rich and I are climbing into his mom’s car, on our way to do the kind of things 10-year-olds do. I'm in the back. Rich takes the passenger seat. Before turning the ignition, his mom reaches down and takes out a pair of brown leather driving gloves. She puts them on, taking her time. The car starts. We pull away. And a few moments later she pushes a cassette into the tape deck.

A few Halloweens back, I decided to do my own Halloween mix (link available upon request) having noticed that generally most compilations on this theme were rubbish. One in particular – 100 Hits: Halloween – caught my eye. The problem with the ‘100 Hits’ collections is that they've instantly set themselves the challenge of finding 100 records on any said theme.

Even if you were busier than usual or having to find a different way to work, there was still an element of contemplation. It was a time of re-evaluation and looking honestly at our lives. This was why some people retired.

In 2022, it’s reported that nearly 70% of online experiences start with a search engine. Whilst social media undoubtedly plays a big part in marketing products and services to potential customers, the stats show that for most customers, their journey to making a purchase or booking starts with their preferred search engine.

We can live without food for an extraordinarily long time. We can live without water for a few days. But without breathing, we live for just a matter of minutes.Because breathing is done unconsciously, we take it for granted, and most people don’t realise it’s possible to breathe badly or how to improve. Poor breathing can have a detrimental effect in many areas of our lives, from the personal to the professional.

I remember when I first heard breakdance music. The year was 1983 and my high-school lunchtimes included rushing to a house-base to stand around a group of cool kids who had embraced the trend. They were performing various dance moves including the King Tut, windmills, the Robot, knee drops and lots of spinning around on their backs, which usually ended with the cleanest floor in the school and blazers covered in a thick layer of dust!
