Today (1st of July 2016) Pioneer DJ has announced details of two exciting new products for video DJs. Firstly, there’s the rekordbox video Plus Pack, which adds video mixing capabilities to Pioneer’s DJ mixing software. Secondly, there’s the DDJ-RZX, a new flagship controller specifically designed for video DJing.
Using the rekordbox video Plus Pack for rekordbox dj, mobile DJs can now manage video and image files in rekordbox, then play and mix them live using any of the controllers in the DDJ range as if they were audio tracks. The video processing algorithm utilised by rekordbox video has been developed by Pioneer DJ to give dependable video performance even with high definition video files. The new software also allows text to be added and slideshows to be created on the fly, as well as offering the ability to integrate a live camera feed into the video output.
recordbox video allows two video files to be mixed together using a controller’s crossfader with a choice of 20 in-built transition FX. The mixed video output, including other elements such as text and the live camera feed, is then fed to the computer’s video output for connection to a projector or TV screen.
Pioneer DJ’s new flagship controller, the DDJ-RZX has been designed to allow DJs to make the most of the recordbox video software. It is a 4-channel professional controller, specifically designed with mobile DJs in mind, which builds on Pioneer’s heritage of making video DJ equipment such as the DVJ-1000 and SVM-1000.
The DDJ-RZX features three touch screens for viewing track information, applied effects and previewing video output. The 7” screens provide sharp video playback and provide access to all of the key features of the rekordbox dj and new rekordbox video Plus Pack software. The DJ’s laptop screen is only required for browsing the rekordbox library and selecting tracks.
The professional standard DDJ-RZX inherits traits from the market-leading CDJ-2000NXS2 multiplayer and DJM mixer range, including large jog wheels, multi-coloured Performance Pads and high-quality audio. In addition to balanced XLR audio outputs, it also offers two separate mic inputs. Each of these is provided via a combination ¼” jack / XLR socket and the mixer boasts an extensive mic section featuring 3-band EQ, Talk Over function and effects.
Due to hit shops later this month, the DDJ-RZX will have a SRP of €2,999 including VAT (around £2,499). It will come bundled with both rekordbox dj and the rekordbox video Plus Pack. For DJs who want to use rekordbox video without the DDJ-RZX, the rekordbox video Plus Pack is available now priced at €159 (using the video pack requires a copy of rekordbox dj, which costs €139).
