Following its debut appearance at LDI 2015 earlier this year, the new Asteroid 1200 effect from ADJ will be available in the UK soon, giving mobile DJs an innovative piece of kit that offers a modern take on the classic eighties pinspot/mirror-ball effect for room-filling results.
Great for mobile DJs looking for an impactful centrepiece effect, the Asteroid 1200 is a spherical fixture which utilises 12 15W quad-colour (RGBW) LEDs, a tight four-degree beam angle and multi-directional continuous pan/tilt rotation to produce a far-reaching display of concise multi-beam effects in a range of colours. Additional features also include strobing and 0-100% electronic dimming, for adding intensity to the dance-floor when required and toning down the lighting during quieter sections of an event, such as when creating a slow-moving mirror-ball effect to accompany a first dance.
The new Asteroid 1200 also offers users full pixel control through its compatibility with both ArtNet and KlingNet, allowing mobile DJs to get even more creative with their lighting by controlling individual beams. Meanwhile, the unit’s quad-colour LEDs enable customised colours to be created using their various red, green, blue and white elements.
Aside from ArtNet/KlingNet, other operational modes include DMX-Controlled and Sound Active, with the former offering 18-, 20- and 69-channel settings and the latter enabling mobile DJs to easily trigger room-filling displays of tight colour beams that move and change in time with their music, for a simple but effective lightshow. The Asteroid 1200 can also be operated in Stand Alone mode, or linked with other units as part of a master/slave setup.
In terms of practical features, ADJ has fitted the Asteroid 1200 with both 3-pin and 5-pin DMX connections, as well as offering sturdy Powercon in/out connections to ensure a stable flow of power in and out of the unit.
Ideal for mobile DJs and other users on the move, the fixture weighs in at a modest 22kg and is also compact enough to be easily stored, transported and set up as part of a mobile lighting rig, measuring 400 x 450 x 600mm.
The Asteroid 1200 from ADJ will be available from UK retailers soon.
