My name is Daniel Wingmalm. I was born in Sweden and I've been a DJ for as long as I can remember. The earliest memory I have of DJing is when I was about 5 or 6 years old, playing around with my brother’s record player, changing the records before they finished – even at such an early age I was beginning to master the art of the turntable!

Inspired by a trip to Mobile Beat in Las Vegas in 2011, Andi Crampton returned to the UK with a vision to create high energy, big production student events for schools and universities in his area. Schools Out Entertainment has continued to be inspired by the best in the industry, wherever that is in the world, and Andi’s company is now one of the most successful of its type in the UK.

With the pandemic still looming over us, it might be a while before we have face-to-face meetings and events again. It’s such a difficult time to make changes to your business model, or to reach new clients, which is why it’s so important to stand out virtually to potential clients and even existing ones. Virtual meetings are here to stay and businesses are continuing to find new, effective ways to meet with clients and showcase what they do using virtual platforms like Zoom.

I wrote an article recently for Pro Mobile that was a light-hearted look at my career as a Stadium Announcer and highlighted how things don't always go to plan. The article prompted a number of personal messages and a request from the editor to write something similar. During these unprecedented times it's important that we remember to smile and laugh as much as possible, and I hope that is the case when I share just a few of my of my stories with you.

As well as running my own wedding DJ business, I also work in corporate communications within the press office for Highways England.

It's that time again, another article to write for Pro Mobile and this time, the topic walked off the page. As you may have read in previous articles of mine, I have been on a journey the last couple of years, both mentally and physically. Now, I will attempt to expand on the mental health benefits I have discovered on my journey; things we can all do to alleviate some of the daily work and life pressures.

One flippant remark to our editor Pete during lockdown, that’s all it took. I was simply telling him about my frustration with the COVID-19 pandemic putting climate change on the back burner (no pun intended). Seizing on this, he asked me to channel my thoughts into an article: what we could do as DJs, but also what we could do as consumers.

Hearing Mike Stead talk about the history and continued success of his company – award-winning DJ store Phase One – is a masterclass in business acumen, marketing savvy and, most fittingly for our current climate, perseverance. Like most businesses in our sector, his Darlington-based store, which sells DJ and disco equipment, has been greatly affected by COVID-19, suffering the knock-on effect of thousands of DJs and entertainers being unable to work.

At a time when bedroom DJing has become the norm for many, and live streaming is the only way to play to a crowd, a good set of monitor speakers is as important as ever.
