TOP 10 FIFTIES FLOOR-FILLERS
AS VOTED FOR BY PRO MOBILE READERS
A multitude of genres and styles comprised the 1950s, but there was one that shone brighter than the rest. Yes, the results for our Top Ten Fifties Floor-fillers are in and you’ve voted exclusively for rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly tracks! It’s no surprise, really. Rock ‘n’ roll was the hub around which the cultural revolution of the fifties revolved, and the songs, predominantly recorded in the Southern heartland of the US, were what drew rebellious youngsters to the dance-floors of the western world. In his song ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Music’ Chuck Berry sang “it’s got a back beat, you can use it” – and that’s exactly what teenagers did.

So, which songs and artists proved to be the most popular floor-fillers with mobile DJs? And which classic fifties track made number one? You – the readers of Pro Mobile – have chosen, so read on to find out...
C’mon Everybody
Eddie Cochran
Opening with chugging electric guitar, slick acoustic strumming and a danceable beat, the powerful voice of rebellious rocker Eddie Cochran wins him a place at number nine with ‘C’mon Everybody’. Upon its 1958 release the song peaked at number six in the UK charts, going on to influence the genres of punk and hard-rock with its short run-time and fast-paced rockabilly sound, eventually being covered by rock legends Led Zeppelin. The track’s influence also earned it a place in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time – it’s easy to see why!
