| Showtec Booster 4 Rack 19"
|
Over the next few issues of Pro Mobile I thought I'd put my pen to paper and help to assist a few of you with some "handy gadgets" and pieces of equipment that most DJs would find useful as part of their shows, but may not know are out there. I spend a lot of time evaluating products that come onto the market, from all types and levels of manufacturers, and there are a lot of items that are often overlooked or not thought about. I'm sure we've all thought about bits of gear that would be handy to have when we're in a situation out on the road, and that's where these articles should assist.
In this issues article I'm looking at a product that will be a bit of a godsend for those of you that use DMX, particularly DJs who use full DMX control for lighting shows and those that use multiple LED fixtures for up-lighting. From the guys at Showtec is the Booster 4 Rack 19". In other words, a DMX splitter!
This very compact and solid 19" rack product can allow you to split a signal from any DMX desk or software, saving that all important time when out on the road setting up and ripping out. Where you would you usually daisy chain from the desk/software to the first fixture, and then out and in to the following fixtures (which can take time to install), you simply output from your DMX source, and then into the splitter pack. With four outputs, and an additional through-out (enabling 5 outputs, or 4 and a feed to another splitter pack), you can simply send direct feeds to wherever you need them. You don't have to loop and in out, right the way around a rig or room for example, or down and then up a lighting stand. For those that up-light walls in venues or marquees, the control can be with you, the DJ, and the DMX can be split out from the left and right sides of your console. This is great for sending signals to two sides of a room if up-lighting, or to send individual feeds up T bars either side of a setup, in fact the possibilities are endless.
