| The Ultimate Interview Part 2
|
Following on from the feature in issue 24, we continue our in-depth interview with industry veteran Andy Tain, originator of Ultimate DJ Jingles and the main man behind the Ultimax brand.
We left the last article just as Andy began his adventure into creating the first DJ jingles on CD and this time I did manage to get a word in edgeways!
So you have the ProUse Series which now runs I believe to 9 volumes, where did things go from there?
After we had produced volume 5 we felt the need to develop what we were doing and offer more specific releases. This lead to the 'Specialist Series', a collection of discs that were aimed at a specific genre, the first being the Ultimate Christmas disc. Every Jock works a lot over the festive period, and so we put together a whole disc just for Christmas and New Year Gigs. There were still show openers and closers, comedy sketches and sound effects, but all with a festive theme. This was originally called Volume 6 but was soon re-christened!
And this type of focussed theme carried on?
Oh yeah, next in the Specialist Series was the Ultimate Birthdays Disc, which again was a landmark disc worldwide. Back in the day we used to scratch around for versions of Happy Birthday on vinyl, and most of them were pretty rubbish. So for the Birthdays disc we recorded 42 brand new and different versions - comedy ones, straight ones, dance versions, and expanded the whole of that disc to include 18ths, 21sts, 40ths and birthday surprises. We have even got name checks on there that say 'Happy Birthday John', 'Happy Birthday Fred', for 260 odd names!
