Biggest Scottish AMPdj Alliance East Coast Meeting So Far!
The Scottish AMPdj Alliance East Coast group held their most recent meeting on April the 4th at Pinkertons Lounge and Function Suite in Glenrothes. Despite the fact that it had been snowing all day, the meeting was the busiest yet with members coming from Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Forfar, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.

The night began with passing the mic around and everybody giving a quick introduction to themselves and where they are from. Next up was our fun music quiz, compiled once again by myself, Andrew Wylie. Our team of pensioners from Glasgow won again, but this time only by a single point!

Our sponsors, Glasgow Sound Centre, were next up with a huge display of equipment including the popular CHAUVET DJ Freedom Sticks. Ian from Glasgow Sound Centre also gave us a demo of the new Db Technologies ES 1203 speakers along with the new sub612 bass bins – 12-inch bins that pack an impressive 600watt output. After their demo, the Glasgow Sound Centre team were given time for selling and were kept busy over the next hour including all the way through the buffet break.

During this time we also had a demo and explanation of the new CHAUVET DJ BTAir lighting system – a range of lighting fixtures that can be operated from your phone via Bluetooth – by Hugh McGuiness. Not only will I have to learn how to DMX my lighting, now I’ll need to learn how to use my mobile phone too!

We restarted the evening after the buffet with a talk from Angie McMurdo McCrae who offered an insight into life as a female DJ and shared the pros and cons of the job from a female perspective.

Our rig and PA system for the night was supplied by local DJ Alan Nicol who, after explaining what his rig consisted of and why he selected the various pieces of equipment, went on to give us a short live mixing demo. Stuart MacLennan from Fresh Entertainment, inventor of Subsafe, was also in attendance at the meeting and was proud to announce that he is now a distributor for Rock ‘n’ Roller carts.

On offer as raffle prizes were an ADJ Bubbletron bubble machine, two Novopro laptop stands (one of which was the collapsible type), an ADJ Flat Par Can bag and a pair of Alto TS210 active speakers from Glasgow Sound Centre. That’s almost £600s worth of raffle prizes! The speakers were won by Edinburgh-based DJ, Graeme Barrie. There was also one extra surprise raffle prize on the night. This was won by one of the guys who fought his way through the snow from Forfar, he won two loaves of bread and two pints of milk… saved him from panic buying!

Once again, many thanks to Pinkertons and their staff for their continued support. Our next meeting will be held at the same venue on Wednesday the 6th of June.
