The VMAs Are Here!
It’s time for the 29th annual MTV Video Music Awards! There aren’t many surprises for 2012 with Rihanna and Drake (pictured below) leading the way, with five nominations each including one for their duet ‘Take Care’ which is nominated for Video Of The Year.
Rihanna is also nominated for her single ‘We Found Love’ in the Video Of The Year category as well as Best Pop Video and Best Female Video. There is however some strong competition from Katy Perry who was last year’s big winner and has received four nominations this year.
Flying the flag for Britain are Adele and Coldplay who are nominated for Best Cinematography as well as The Wanted and One Direction who are both up for Best New Artist with ‘Glad You Came’ and ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. They are facing competition in the same category from Fun, Frank Ocean and the incredibly chirpy Carly Rae Jepsen. Calvin Harris also appears in the Best Electronic Dance Music category for his track ‘Feel So Close’.
The ceremony will take place on the 6th of September at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. It will feature performances from One Direction and four time VMA winner Alicia Keys who will be performing her as-yet-unheard new single. When speaking about the performance she commented, “‘debuting a new song at the VMAs is definitely special, I debuted ‘No One’ at the VMAs - it was the first time anyone in the world heard it. It’s the perfect setting, it’s the right energy, it’s the right vibe.”
