Pioneer DJ Launches Controller Geared to Serato Flip
This week, Pioneer DJ has launched its latest controller, the DDJ-SX2; the first to give DJs intuitive control of the Serato Flip extension of the popular Serato DJ software.

The controller builds on the company’s previous models by offering a number of new features, with exclusive designated buttons allowing DJs more natural control over Serato Flip as well as new performance pads with multi-coloured cue point LEDs and enhanced jog wheels.

Serato Flip, the new software from Serato DJ, enables users to record hot cue combinations and replay them on loop, letting DJs record their cue triggers with the Performance Pads and loop the sequence back whenever they need to. The three designated buttons cover all the functions of Serato Flip: Record, Start and Slot, so DJs can start and stop recordings, activate loops, and store sequences. With six slots, users can then store up to six sequences for playback at a later time.

With the new Performance Pads DJs can trigger Quantized Hot Cues, Roll, Slicer and Sampler, or use Shift to save and activate Cue and Slicer loops. Meanwhile, Velocity Mode lets DJs adjust the sample volume by applying varying amounts of pressure. Cue points pre-set in Serato DJ and the modes currently in play are both indicated by the multi-coloured backlit LEDs.

Much like its predecessor, the DDJ-SX2 has four analogue inputs so that DJs can connect the controller to a CD players or turntables and use it as a four-channel stand-alone mixer. The controller features two master outputs – XLR and RCA Phono – as well as a dedicated booth output for connections directly to PA equipment. With two improved MIC inputs, mobile DJs (and their audiences) can also enjoy minimal distortion.

The controller is Serato DJ DVS upgrade-ready, so DJs can buy a Serato DJ DVS Expansion Pack and use it with CDJs, or analogue turntables, using Serato NoiseMap Control. Pioneer has also fitted the DDJ-SX2 with improved low-latency jog wheels and, in addition to the backlit-LED On-Jog display showing the playback status of tracks, the new model has illuminated cue point markers and an accurate countdown for extra precision.

DJs will be glad to know that the DDJ-SX2 retains features found on its previous model, including Slip Mode, Sound Colour Filters on each channel, crossfader curve adjust, needle search, and master and channel level meters. The DDJ-SX2 is also MIDI and Traktor Pro2 TSI mapping file compatible.

The DDJ-SX2 comes with a free Serato Flip expansion pack voucher, and will be available from October. The first 10,000 units will also come bundled with a free voucher for the Serato Video Expansion Pack.
