QSC Releases New Wi-Fi-Compatible TouchMix-16
The TouchMix-16 is the latest release from the QSC’s popular Touchmix series, offering mobile DJs a compact, easy-to-use mixer that features integrated software, a well-sized touch screen, and convenient Wi-Fi connectivity.

A 20-channel mixer ideal for use by mobile DJs that also engineer the sound for speeches, presentations and other acts, such as bands and entertainers, the TouchMix-16 offers a similar layout to standard mixers, but with a digital touch-sensitive screen replacing the usual physical faders and FX buttons.

Users have access to 16 channels (four XLR/TRS combo), two stereo inputs, two main XLR outputs, six aux XLR outputs, two stereo aux outputs, one stereo monitor cue and one stereo phones cue, while the mixer offers manual settings for each channel, including EQ, compression, gate and other effects.

QSC has ensured that the TouchMix-16’s display gives users access to built-in software, which provides mobile DJs with a number of professional effects – such as compression, gate, reverb and delay – that can be utilised during performances by live bands and singers. This built-in software includes 100 pre-set configurations, offering settings for different vocal types and instruments, as well as for speech, including speakers using handheld or head microphones. Users also have access to factory scenes, allowing them to prepare multiple channels for a preconceived setup – such as for a string quartet or jazz band. In addition to the touch screen controls, the mixer is fitted with a rotary control knob that allows users to scroll and select from the on-screen menu.

Thanks to QSC’s inclusion of a USB Wi-Fi dongle, mobile DJs can connect to the TouchMix-16 via corresponding software using their iPad or iPhone. Users can then control the same settings from their portable device as they can from the mixer’s screen, giving mobile DJs the freedom to move around the room, or be situated away from the sound booth, as they make adjustments. This Wi-Fi compatibility also enables users to grant control to multiple other devices, allowing band members and other users to control their own monitor mixes.

This range of new features makes the TouchMix-16 particularly well-suited to DJs wishing to control the sound for live bands, performers and speakers at weddings and other events – especially those users with little experience of sound engineering. However, QSC has also ensured that the pre-set configurations can be overridden, allowing more professional or experienced users to incorporate the TouchMix-16 into their audio setup if they wish. All users can save the pre-sets and scenes they create to the mixer’s internal memory, or an external USB source, making them available to recall at a later date. Live performances can also be recorded directly to the user’s USB hard-drive.

In terms of portability, the TouchMix-16 measures 58 x 360 x 291mm and weighs in at just less than 3kg, making it a lightweight, compact solution that DJs can easily incorporate into their mobile setup. Adding to this portability, the TouchMix-16 also comes supplied with a carrying case.

The QSC TouchMix-16 is available now at an SSP of £999.
