REVIEWED: Ultimax RGB LED Starcloth
As a working DJ, I know that presentation is key. It’s not just about playing the right music; it’s about how we present ourselves and our entire setup to clients and their guests. The visual element of a performance is often just as important as the audio, and it’s what sets a professional apart from an amateur. Over the years, I've used plenty of booths from different brands, but I’ve always been a fan of the Ultimax DJ Pro Booth for its clean lines and robust build.

So, when I heard an RGB LED Starcloth was being made specifically for it, I was over the moon! I recently had the chance to have a play with the starcloth at a gig, and I’m genuinely impressed with the performance and the build quality.

When I first unboxed the starcloth, I was greeted with a heavy-duty carry bag, which is always handy for transport. The first challenge was attaching the velcro to the booth itself. It was a bit of a pain initially, but, once I got the hang of it, the process became absolutely fine. The best part is that the velcro can now stay on the booth at all times, making future setups incredibly fast and easy. It’s a simple detail, but a major time-saver.

The cloth itself feels incredibly durable and is of great quality. It’s made from a thick, fire-retardant molton fabric, which gives me real confidence in its longevity. Inside the cloth, the LEDs are encased in small, protective boxes. This is a brilliant bit of engineering, as it protects against the kind of knocks and bumps that are inevitable when you’re a mobile DJ. The thickness of the fabric also made installation on to the booth an absolute breeze, as it held its shape and didn’t sag.

The controller box was easy to use and a simple, solid metal build. Setting it up was straightforward; you just plug in the supplied True1 Power cable, which is a great touch for safety and reliability, along with the included 4-pin link cable to connect to the starcloth. The build quality of the controller gives me peace of mind; it feels like it can handle the rigours of the road without any issues.

The real test, though, was how it looked in action at a live event. Once the lights were dimmed and guests arrived, I could see that the booth was completely transformed. Normally, I would just run a white lycra scrim with a batten light behind it to uplight the booth. With the starcloth, however, I had a sparkling, elegant booth that matched the wedding décor perfectly. It’s a huge step up from a basic uplighting setup, offering both ambiance and a magical atmosphere. The bright, vivid colours were absolutely stunning and provided a perfect backdrop to the room.

For the first dance and when the party kicked off, I switched on the controller box’s sound-active mode, and the lights started to twinkle and flash in time with the music. With the bride and groom at the centre, the booth looked really awesome.
Later in the evening, I played around with the different presets that are on the controller box. There are 16 presets built into the controller box, with a great variety of static colours and dynamic effects. I’ve seen cheaper starcloths fail mid-event, with LEDs going down or the fabric ripping. On the Ultimax, I could see that a lot of improvements have been made to avoid these issues. The LEDs are super bright, they look awesome, and each colour looks incredibly vibrant on the booth. The entire cloth mounted perfectly to my existing booth, as it was clearly designed to fit.

After the gig, my biggest win was the bride, who had specifically told me she wanted a “classy booth”. She was over the moon with what she had. She said the booth looked beautiful and elegant and that it fitted the wedding theme perfectly.

On the night, I just used the standard presets, but if I had wanted to, I could have hooked this up to DMX and controlled the starcloth to match different colours or themes to suit the wedding, or to create more complex, custom effects. The ability to switch between simple presets and full DMX control is a major advantage.

Another main plus point for the Ultimax DJ Starcloth is that I personally put flight cases and bags inside of the DJ Booth, and sometimes I find the lycra scrim so thin that it pushes out, which is really noticeable to a customer. With the starcloth being made from thicker material, there was no pushing out, and it fitted snugly to the booth, creating a clean, professional look. This attention to detail is what sets this product apart.

For weddings and high-end corporate events, the starcloth delivers a level of elegance and class that is hard to beat. Whether it’s on a standard preset or a static colour, it adds energy and movement, but, most importantly, it’s reliable and easy to use, and it makes you look professional. For a corporate event, you could easily set the starcloth to a static colour that matches the company’s branding, offering a subtle but powerful visual marketing tool. For themed parties, like an 80s night, a pulsating rainbow pattern would be perfect, while a general birthday party could use a sound-active mode to get guests excited. For a prom, the starcloth provides a glamorous backdrop that makes every photo look spectacular. The cloth is not limited to a single style of event; its versatility is one of its greatest strengths.

The ability to create a custom look is a major selling point. For example, if you want a different setup,
you can simply put your white lycra scrim over the top of the black starcloth to create a beautiful, elegant white starcloth effect. This gives you a two-in-one product that offers even more value.

If you are serious about elevating your DJ brand, the Ultimax Starcloth is a must-have. It’s not the cheapest option out there, but it is built with quality and reliability in mind, and that’s always worth spending a little extra on. It’s not just an accessory; it’s a game-changer for how clients and guests perceive your setup.

Overall, I really like the starcloth; it’s definitely one of the best cloths I’ve used. The build quality, ease of use, and visual impact are all top-notch. I’ve already added both the black RGB and the white starcloth to my setup to give me extra options at my events. This has to be a 5-star product from me!
