The 2024 Pro Mobile Awards were presented by Michael Clitheroe as part of our networking events at Pro Mobile Focus & Retreat. Michael is the General Manager of the Balmer Lawn Hotel, chairs the New Forest Hotels Association, and is a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality. The awards ceremony was also broadcast live on Facebook and Instagram.

As in past years, there were eight awards, mainly focusing on equipment, but also honouring some individuals. The shortlists for the first six categories were published in the last issue of the magazine – and online – but the winners were chosen by Pro Mobile readers through an online vote. We had a truly fantastic response to this, with over 1500 DJs contributing their opinion. This means that these awards were presented by Pro Mobile, but on behalf of all of our readers – mobile DJs from across the UK and Ireland.

The ‘DJ’s DJ’ award recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond to help or inspire other DJs. When voting for the other award categories, we asked readers to nominate someone they felt was deserving of the ‘DJ's DJ’ title and also submit a short description of why they felt that particular individual was worthy of the award. The winner was selected based on the number of nominations that an individual received and also the reasons behind the nominations.

Finally, the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award is the only one that wasn’t voted for by readers. Since 2013, we have presented one award each year recognising an individual who has made a big impact on the mobile DJ industry and also on Pro Mobile. As usual, the Pro Mobile team selected the winner of this award to acknowledge and thank them for their positive impact and dedication to both the industry and the magazine.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Pro Mobile DJ's DJ
JON COLLEY

We asked you to nominate someone you thought was serving of the DJ's DJ title, and to also submit a short description of why you felt that particular individual was worthy of the award. A wide variety of DJs were nominated for a wide variety of different reasons, but a few names appeared repeatedly: Alan Marshall, Clive Hodghton, Dan Young, Mandla Sibanda, Jimmy Lee, Pat Mulligan, Steven Honeyball and Teejai Hayter all received multiple nominations. But this year, one name stood out with many nominations and also very strong reasons for these nominations. These included comments like: “Goes above and beyond to all fellow DJs around the country”, “always helpful to anyone in the DJ community who needs help or someone to talk to”, “amazing all-rounder who can keep 8- to 80-year-olds happy”, “brilliant ambassador for dJing and helps anyone any chance he gets”, “a huge part of the DJ community, with a wealth of knowledge, he is the first to help out fellow DJs and really is a massive inspiration to all!”

Outstanding Contribution to the Industry
JACK WILSON

The winner of this year’s Pro Mobile Outstanding Contribution award is Jack Wilson. This award completes the ‘full set’ of Pro Mobile awards for Jack, making him the first ever recipient of both the DJ’s DJ and Outstanding Contribution awards. There are very few readers of our magazine who have not been either helped, or influenced by, Jack’s work. It’s difficult to list all of his contributions. However, they include working on a voluntary basis with SEDA on both their committee and latterly as an advisor whilst Jack has been a key figure at BPM – The Show for DJs as well as providing sound and AV services for Pro Mobile events (including this year's Focus & Retreat). Jack consistently provides help, advice and support for anyone in the DJ industry and is also the driving force behind his company, Kent Media Group. And in his spare time, you will even find him out and about working as a mobile DJ. The DJ world would be a much poorer place without Jack Wilson - we hope he continues his hard work for many years to come!
