It’s fair to say that we live in an era of constant distraction. Estimates for the average number of daily notifications received by smartphone users ranges from 40 to 90, with teenagers receiving upwards of 200 – that’s around one new notification every seven minutes. It’s not just our smartphone apps, either.
Our laptops and work devices provide an additional wave of distraction: emails, messages, meeting invites, newsletters – all popping up on screen to keep us from our work.
With so much to distract us, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stay on task and work efficiently. When we lose focus and struggle to get our head in the game, it loses us time and results in poor performance. Ultimately, this lack of productivity is bad for business.
Inspired by my own efforts to avoid procrastination and distraction and become more productive, I’ve pulled together some hacks, processes and useful tools to help you work more efficiently this year.
