So, let’s start by looking at some key differences you may notice between the ‘old’ and ‘new’ Google Analytics. Then we’ll dive into a few essential reports to get you started with your reporting and analysis in GA4.
Visual differences between GA3 and GA4In terms of the layout of the user interface, GA4 doesn’t look too different to its predecessor. But you will notice some changes, especially in the terminology that the product uses.
Changes in menu layout
The image below shows how the left-hand menu has changed between GA3 and GA4.
The key difference is that in GA3 you had a single left-hand menu, with ‘Home’, ‘Customization’ and ‘Reports’ (most of the product’s features were grouped in the ‘Reports’ section).
But in GA4, you have four main menu items: ‘Home’, ‘Reports’, ‘Explore’ and ‘Advertising’.
Then within each of these, you have a sub-menu with further options.
