As in past years, there were eight awards, mainly focusing on equipment, but also honouring some individuals. The shortlists for the first six categories were published in the last issue of the magazine – and online – but the winners were chosen by Pro Mobile readers through an online vote. We had a truly fantastic response to this, with over 1800 DJs contributing their opinion. This means that these awards were presented by Pro Mobile, but on behalf of all of our readers – mobile DJs from across the UK and Ireland.

The ‘DJ’s DJ’ award recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond to help or inspire other DJs. When voting for the other award categories, we asked readers to nominate someone they felt was deserving of the ‘DJ's DJ’ title and also submit a short description of why they felt that particular individual was worthy of the award. The winner was selected based on the number of nominations that an individual received and also the reasons behind the nominations.

Finally, the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award is the only one that wasn’t voted for by readers. Since 2013, we have presented one award each year recognising an individual who has made a big impact on the mobile DJ industry and also on Pro Mobile. As usual, the Pro Mobile team selected the winner of this award to acknowledge and thank them for their positive impact and dedication to both the industry and the magazine.

Established in 1981, Phase One is a second generation family business currently owned and operated by Mike and Julie Stead. Selling online since 2004, Phase One serves 1000s of customers across the UK while also supporting lots of local DJs through their Darlington-based store. Phase One have now won Retailer Of The Year three times.

Darren Hicks, based in Redruth, Cornwall, established Phaze 2 Mobile DJ more than 30 years ago. Darren's background of working in clubs across Devon and Cornwall (which includes supporting big name DJs), has helped to shape his business. Now specialising in weddings, he has worked as a key supplier to the iconic Tregenna Castle resort near St Ives, for 25 years.

A wide variety of DJs were nominated for a wide variety of different reasons, but a few names appeared repeatedly – Alan Marshall, Alastair Craig, Andy Harris, Brian Mole, Clive Hodghton, DJ L.I.AM (aka Liam Osler), Jack Wilson, Jimmy Lee, Nick Chatten, Pat Mulligan, Paul Radmore and Steven Honeyball all received multiple nominations. But this year, one name stood out with both a large number of nominations and very strong reasons for these nominations. They included comments like - “he is an inspiration to all DJs”, “a great mentor and coach”, “nothing is too much trouble for this DJ and he helps a lot of us”, “he inspires and helps DJs in a real and unpretentious way”, “he has a clear passion for the industry and love of what he does” and “his social media accounts follow his journey, offers help, support and advice to other DJs. He shows you what "good" looks like, is a walking advert for excellence and raises the profile of what a great DJ should be.”

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE INDUSTRY

Rob Moore
The winner of this year’s Pro Mobile Outstanding Contribution award is Rob Moore. Rob is one of those industry people we see at each and every DJ event, and is always on hand with advice and guidance on any aspect of DJing. As he says himself, he has never been a mobile DJ, but he absolutely loves the industry. Mastermix label manager, Richard Lee, said " Rob is an industry legend who thoroughly deserves the awards he receives. He knows everyone and everyone knows him. He is one of the hardest working people in the industry and has gained a reputation for being amongst the best in the business as well as one of the nicest. His time at Mastermix helped turn a small company into Europe's largest DJ-only music service. He created a legacy that he has carried with him throughout his illustrious career. Rob is the ultimate representative for whichever company he has worked for and the man who gave me my break in the music industry...and for that I will be forever grateful."
