The problem is that setting goals is only half the battle. How do you make sure you actually achieve them?

I’ve got five components to help you set and achieve your biggest business goals in 2023. Using all five will give you the best chance of scoring big. Whereas missing out on any one of these components will massively impact on the likelihood of you bringing your goals into reality.

Methodology

Let's start with setting the goal. To do this most effectively it makes sense to follow a goal-setting methodology. There are a few variations to choose from but I find SMART goals is one of the most widely used – and for good reason. It's a straightforward method to follow, easy to implement, and includes everything you need to create a worthy goal.

If you’ve not heard of SMART goals before, here’s a basic rundown of how to use this method. First, think of a goal you want to achieve. Then ask yourself the following questions:

Is it Specific?
Is it Measurable?
Is it Achievable?
Is it Realistic?
Is it Time-bound?

If you can answer yes to all these, then great, your SMART goal is ready. You can move on to the next section!

If you’ve answered no to any of the questions, then you’ll need to make some adjustments to your goal. To put this in context, here’s a basic example:

Accountability

...

Closing thoughts

Any one of these components has the potential to help you reach your goals. But when you combine all five, you’ll be an unstoppable force.
