ARTICLE
The traditional Christmas party usually includes an eclectic mix of latest tunes, classic floor fillers, party anthems and Christmas songs to appease guests of all ages. There are certain festive hits that most DJs will play as part of their main sets, including ‘Merry Xmas Everyone’ – Slade, ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ – Wizzard, ‘All I Want For Christmas (Is You)’ – Mariah Carey, and of course ‘Fairytale Of New York’ by the Pogues feat. Kirsty McColl. But it’s also a good idea to have some other options to hand.

There are also some modern Christmas hits that may find their way into your main set. Artists including Ariana Grande, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga have all released decent festive hits that can be added to a pop chart set to complement the occasion. Traditional classics have been recorded by artists including Michael Buble, Robbie Williams and Carly Rae Jepson to give them a wider appeal to audiences of all ages.

There is also the option of playing tracks that have been given a festive feel thanks to some clever production. Songs like ‘Love Me Like You Do’ – Little Mix is a good example of a modern pop track that also includes a Christmas version featuring added sleigh bells throughout. It’s not a new thing – in fact, Mastermix have used that formula for a few years now, adding a festive feel to tracks including ‘Gangnam Style’ – Psy and the ever-popular ‘Soul Banana’ mix (still a favourite of many DJs).

One of the questions that always gets asked amongst DJs is, “What version of Auld Lang Syne do you play?” There are so many options to choose from and it usually comes down to personal choice. Recently, I rediscovered Mariah Carey’s version. It has all the right component parts, including a piano intro with lamented vocals before kicking into a dance version that takes the energy levels up.

Mastermix have a wide range of mixed and unmixed collections to ensure you have all you need for Christmas and New Year, including Essential Hits: Christmas, Mastermix Collection: Christmas, Grandmaster Christmas and Grandmaster New Year’s Party. In addition, as an early Christmas present to all Pro Mobile readers, Mastermix have created an exclusive digital album that features a selection of alternate Christmas and New Year tracks, and utilities to add to your DJ music library.
