The Official Charts Company has reported that ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ from Belgian-Australian musician and singer-songwriter Gotye was the biggest selling single of 2012.

The track, which features singer Kimbra, was released on the 5th of February and had already topped charts around the globe before it was available in the UK. The release sold a whopping 1,318,000 copies, almost 200,000 more than its runner up (pictured below), Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ which also reached number 1 in the UK. Further down the Top 40 singles list are, Adele's 'Skyfall' at 20, Stooshe at 27 with 'Black Heart', and Little Mix at 40 with 'Wings'.

Single sales increased by 6% in 2012 with total sales of 188.6 million, compared to 177.9 million in 2011. Emeli Sande’s debut album ‘Our Version Of Events’ topped the list with 1.39 million copies, followed by Adele who sold 786,000 copies of ‘21’.
