Dave Clark Five Frontman Dies
Dave Clark Five's lead singer Mike Smith died of pneumonia yesterday (February 28), just two weeks before his band was to be inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Smith, 64, is reported to have died at a hospital outside of London after being admitted to the intensive care unit with a chest infection on Wednesday. His ill health stems from a freak accident that occurred when he fell while trying to climb a gate at his Spanish Villa. He was left paralysed and spent years in hospital, although was able to return home in 2007.

In a statement Margot Lewis, Smith’s agent said, "These last five years were extremely difficult for Mike. I am incredibly saddened to lose him, his energy and his humor, but I am comforted by the fact that he had the chance to spend his final months and days at home with his loving wife Charlie."

Dave Clark Five were an integral part of the 1960s British Invasion. They sold 100 million records around the world with hits such as ‘Bits And Pieces’, while their song ‘Glad All Over’ knocked the Beatles’ ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ off the top spot.
