Latest Mastermix Issue Released
The January 2012 instalment of Mastermix’s long-running ‘Issue’ double CD has been released. Issue 307 features over two and a half hours of music arranged in the usual mixture of ‘DJ Only’ remixes, mash-ups and megamixes covering everything from current chart hits to classic dance-floor fillers from past decades.
Each of the two discs kicks off with an eight track mix of current party pop crowd pleasers, with the first instalment featuring all female performers and the second dedicated to male pop stars. There’s also another mix devoted to male performers, this time with tracks from the 80s including Prince’s ‘U Got The Look’ and Lionel Richie’s ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’.
More timeless tracks from music’s past feature on the ‘Disco Sauce’ mix, which kicks off with Boney M’s ‘Gotta Go Home’ before taking in ‘Funkytown’ from Lipps Inc. and Abba’s ‘Voulez-Vous’ to name just a few. That mix gets quite cheesy, but is nothing compared to the ‘Bubblegum Pop’ mix, which is unashamedly so. The Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’ kicks off a mix that also takes in Tommy Roe’s 1969 No. 1 ‘Dizzy’ and Kenny’s ‘The Bump’ among others of a similar vein. Another mix which barely scrapes into the ‘retro’ category is ‘Pure 00s Dance’, which features 20 dance anthems from the last decade arranged into a high-energy 20 minute mix.
Mash-ups are a great way of adding a bit of variety to your chart music sets, especially for school or college parties and 18th or 21st birthdays. This Issue features three mash-ups: David Guetta vs. Chris Brown, Example vs. LMFAO and, rather ingeniously, Maroon 5 vs. Mick Jagger!
