Peavey Releases New Dark Matter Speakers
Peavey Electronics is expanding its line of professional audio solutions with the release of its new Dark Matter speaker enclosures. Fitted with an advanced DSP-equipped power section, Peavey has designed the Dark Matter series – which includes four models: the DM 112, DM 115, DM 115 Subwoofer and DM 118 Subwoofer – to out-perform similar enclosures currently on the market.
For mobile DJs, this means a range of reliable, high-SPL (sound pressure level) speaker enclosures housed in durable injection-moulded cabs with steel grilles; ideal for taking on the road. The design of the cabs also means they can be used as pole-mounted speakers or as floor monitors, especially helpful for mobile DJs sharing the stage with bands and other performers.
The DM 112 and DM 115 are two-way, bi-amplified speakers that feature 12” and 15” heavy duty woofers, respectively, as well as utilising Peavey’s own Quadratic Throat Waveguide technology, which helps deliver a clear, precise sound. Meanwhile, the compact DM 118 and DM 115 subwoofers provide powerful low-end frequencies, boosted by fully-adjustable KOSMOS image enhancement for increased bass impact. Both subwoofer models include heavy-duty woofers – 15” for the DM 115 and 18” for the DM 118 – and reliable air-cooled power amps.
The speakers in the Dark Matter series also include an LCD display and selector knob, allowing users to choose various DSP-based EQ settings. This provides access to control over bass and treble, as well as EQ pre-sets for different applications or speaker positions/locations. These pre-sets offer a fast and flexible way to configure the speaker system for a specific application.
All Dark Matter series units are fitted with XLR/¼” jack inputs and XLR outputs, giving mobile DJs various connection options and the ability to link multiple speakers. In terms of setup, the DM 112 and DM 115 speaker enclosures include moulded-in pole mounts on their bases, allowing users to mount the speakers onto 1 3/8” poles. The DM Subwoofers, on the other hand, feature threaded pole mounts and come with speaker poles included for mounting satellite speakers above the subs.
