Altamar Sound and Light in Worksop is the first retailer to join Nottinghamshire County Council’s approved trader list. The ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme gives a stamp of approval to businesses who are vetted by trading standards officers. The approved list helps people to avoid some of the less scrupulous traders who may try to rip them off or carry out sub-standard work.
Over 200 trades people, including plumbers, electricians, gardeners and builders, have already joined the scheme since it was launched in November last year, but Altamar Sound and Light is the first retailer in the county to join. Mike Boldero, from Altamar Sound and Light, said: “There are lots of people in our industry who sell poor quality second hand products or counterfeit goods. We wanted to make it clear to our customers that we rise above this and only stock brand new, quality products that we buy directly from the manufacturers. We’re really pleased to be a ‘Buy With Confidence’ trader and we believe that the scheme will help local people to recognize those businesses who have the trading standards stamp of approval.”
Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Partnerships, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Altamar Sound and Light to our ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme.
The scheme puts more power and confidence in the hands of local people and reassures them that there are reliable traders out there. It also sends a clear message to rogue traders that local people won’t settle for shoddy work.”
Companies on the approved trader scheme are able to use a ‘Buy With Confidence’ logo after the following checks have been carried out:
Regular monitoring of consumer complaints
Checks with a selection of previous customers
Checks for records of appropriate staff training
Checks to ensure the customer complaints handling procedure is effective
Checks for outstanding County Court Judgements
Checks for public liability insurance
Credit Reference Agency check
Bank reference checks
