Since their explosion onto the UK DJ lighting scene just a few years ago, American DJ have rapidly become established in the market. Part of this success must be attributed to their dedication to pushing the boundaries of lighting effect technology and the truly unique key products that they launch from time to time. The new Jelly Fish is one of these units.
The Jelly Fish projects beams of light generated by LEDs through an array of six angled lenses. Nothing new there then! What sets the Jelly Fish apart from every other similar effect light is its clear plastic casing. This means that in a dark gig environment the whole case is illuminated by the LED light sources within. This adds a completely new dimension to a DJ’s lighting rig, providing a focal point at the front as well as beams in the air and dots of light on the dance-floor, walls or ceiling.
A total of 84 5mm LEDs produce the unique effect of the Jelly Fish (21 each of Red, Green, Blue and White) and the unit can be attached to a lighting bar or truss using the integral hanging bracket. As is becoming commonplace, the Jelly Fish can operate in a sound activated standalone mode and is also compatible with American DJ’s UC3 easy-to-use controller. Multiple units can also be linked together for master/slave operation, while full DMX control is also provided in either basic 3 channel or advanced 28 channel modes.
The Jelly Fish should be swimming in to DJ stores throughout the UK very soon, in the meantime, look out for the review in issue 40 of Pro Mobile Magazine.
