REVIEWED
REVIEWED: Humpter B3
When Pro Mobile approached me to review a mobile DJ booth, to be honest, I thought I was the wrong guy for the job. I’m predominantly a club/bar DJ who does the odd wedding or party here and there (depending on the music policy), so whenever I do a mobile gig my set up is pretty minimal. With that in mind, it turns out the Humpter B3 booth is absolutely bang on for a DJ like me to try out. Read on to find out why…

Perfectly named – the ‘B’ stands for ‘basic’ – this Humpter booth is indeed very basic, but in the best sense of the word. I’m not talking the basic that you see in those ‘bad DJ set up’ groups on Facebook, rather the minimal, clean, understated kind.

As DJs, it’s only natural for us to obsess over the working DJ’s setup whenever we attend a party as a punter, whether it’s PA, lights, controller or booth. And honestly, if you arrive at a function and the DJ is using this Humpter B3, you’re going to be impressed.

Not only does the booth look the business, but it feels heavyweight, safe and solid – which in DJ terms equals a pain to carry and set up, right? Quite the contrary. The B3 won’t break your back and it’s probably the easiest DJ booth I’ve ever set up, with just three parts to assemble.

The main aluminium body of the booth folds in on itself using a unique hinge system hidden within the table. The top table (the work surface) is made from steel, with two wiring holes for cable management. And finally there is a thin panel that fits along the top to protect your equipment from the crowd in front.

See what I mean by basic? Wait, it gets better.

I managed to assemble this booth from flatpack to fully functioning in less than two minutes.

Because of that clever hinge system, the Humpter B3 doesn’t require any tools for assembly. You simply remove the clip that’s holding it together when packed down, unfold the sides that also act as the legs, and then use the steel tabletop to secure it all in place. Slot the protective panel along the front and hey presto, you’re ready to rock. And when I say rock, I mean rock the party, as this thing is so well built it will not be rocking from side to side.

To quote Humpter themselves:

“We have invested significant time and effort, conducting hundreds of tests to ensure it meets the highest standards. Our primary objective is to provide optimal stability and eliminate vibrations, which can be problematic, especially when scratching. Our careful selection of steel, reinforced frame, and six-point tabletop support system ensures it is the most stable mobile DJ table available.”

Now given, I haven’t used many mobile DJ booths, but I have played on a lot of club DJ booths, and this B3 feels as sturdy as any of them. The only part of this booth that I found a little bit wobbly is the optional under-counter shelf. It’s kind of flimsy, so I don’t think I would trust putting too much weight on there in terms of empty flight cases or anything like that. But, it’s not something that comes as standard anyway.

Another great thing about the B3’s simple design means it takes up hardly any space in storage and transportation, and you can carry it in one go from your van or car to the room where you’re setting up.
It’s worth saying now that carry bags aren’t included, but you can purchase them from Humpter as an optional add-on. It’s an additional expense, but one that’s essential. Unless you’d rather go down the route of a custom-made flight case, which, with a booth of this standard, I would probably lean more towards.

There are other optional extras on offer too. Similar to our Swedish flatpack friends, Humpter has designed its accessories to be attached to this booth with complete ease. What’s more, you can leave your toolkit at home because all the accessories can be attached by hand. I really liked the option to add a laptop stand or player stands (perfect for media players or CDJs) on either side of the top shelf.
The circular base plate and extendable arms on these stands are cleverly designed, allowing you to twist and pull them in to the position that suits you the best. Perfect. At this point I should add that the B3’s steel tabletop has ample room for any sized controller or two-deck setup. It would only really be necessary for a pair of the player stands if you were using a four-channel mixer with more than two decks or CDJs. Humpter also give you the option to add a tablet or laptop stand in the middle of the top shelf, ideal for lighting control or for DJs who prefer their laptop in the middle rather than off to one side.

Again, with no tools required, you can add monitor shelves on each side of the booth. Depending on where you’re positioning your main PA, these may not be essential, but they’re very well designed. The arms come out far enough to fit around the other accessories you may have installed and there are some cable management clips attached to ensure that the booth stays looking tidy.

Although these accessories come at an additional cost, Humpter does include two handy features that are built into the booth as standard. You’ll find a dedicated headphone holder that slides out on the right-hand side and, most importantly, a nifty little cup holder (read: beer holder!) that slides out on the left.

Although branded as a mobile DJ booth, the Humpter B3 wouldn’t look out of place as a permanent install for function rooms, bars, or even clubs – my interest as a club/bar DJ is certainly piqued! While the booth is compact, it still looks extremely professional, and with Humpter offering plenty of options for personalisation (logo print, graphics, unique colours) it can be branded to suit any mobile DJ business or venue alike. You can even buy a TV mounting kit that lets you to add a 55” screen to the front of the booth.

While the Humpter B3 may not be the cheapest option out there for mobile DJs, the price reflects the product. The added accessories are a bonus and a worthwhile investment depending on what setup you require, but then they’re not essential if you don’t have the money to spend (however the optional carry bags or some kind of flight case will be needed to protect the booth in transit). Furthermore, the booth is versatile enough to work at any function and it oozes professionalism.

To sum it all up, this booth looks classy but understated. It’s sturdy but lightweight. And it’s just so simple and fast to assemble. I want one.
