ARTICLE
The moment we pressed the print button it was time to prepare for Pro Mobile Conference (PMC). And then it was straight to preparing this issue of our magazine. In between all of this I have also been working on my own mobile DJ and events business. It’s been a lot of hard work (I’m indebted to my family, our small Pro Mobile team and the wider DJ community for their unbelievable support), but it’s all been so worthwhile.

PMC was absolutely brilliant – over 30 people who had never attended in any of the previous years meant that this year there was a buzz I personally had not experienced in quite some time.
There really is nothing like getting a room full of entertainers together for networking, learning and the general mayhem that ensues. And new blood meant that we had fresh perspectives. My biggest regret is not being able to spend time with every single person, to find out where they are on their journey, how they are gaining from our event and how we can shape future events. But those I did get to talk to were, as always, enthusiastic, enlightening and inspiring.

We work in the £50 billion events industry, there are so many ways to do what we do. Get a room of us together and you’d struggle to not learn a whole lot of new ideas. Despite all this, the conference will be taking a year off next year. In fact, we have decided that rather than hold a Pro Mobile Conference every year, it would be far better to hold the event on a bi-annual basis. And in between, run smaller, stripped back and more accessible gatherings (more on which later).

This will in the end mean that we can announce dates further in advance, giving everyone more notice and also us more flexibility. The dates we were tied to during the last two years have been less than ideal. Last year we kicked off immediately after the clock change, and it also happened to be Mothering Sunday. This year we again had the clock change to contend with. Never again, that’s a promise!

We ask for and receive a lot of feedback on our conference, the trickiest issue of all is that start on a Sunday. So many of our attendees work the Saturday before, have long distances to travel and would prefer we kick off on a Monday.
But there are also a great deal of attendees who have day jobs and cannot easily get time off without losing vital holiday. So for me, we need to stick to the Sunday/Monday combination and do our best to make alterations that ensure that most at least get a decent night’s sleep before attending. Watch this space for future announcements!

Next year we are holding our first ever Pro Mobile Focus & Retreat. It’s being held on Sunday the 28th January and Monday 29th. Arrival can be any time on the Sunday and we will kick off with a not-to-be-missed welcome talk, which I will host with my good friend, business mentor and also, customer, Michael Clitheroe at 7pm. Michael is one of the best-connected individuals I know in hospitality. He is a regular speaker at hospitality events, on the boards of some of the largest hospitality organisations, and an all-round brilliant leader. That session alone will be priceless.

We then follow with a day of learning from some of the people I most admire in our industry on the Monday. And even better – the venue is also a full-service spa and retreat in itself, located in the heart of the New Forest. Bring family, friends, colleagues – we are down to our last four rooms so reach out soon.
