To clarify, the term ‘Gen Z’ refers to the generation born between the late 1990s and early 2010s, so roughly 1998 to 2012. Some Gen Zs were aged just 10 when the Covid pandemic hit. While at the older end of the scale, some were two or three years old on 9/11.
Many Gen Zs have now left school and entered the workplace. Some will have long-term partners and will be considering tying the knot.
What I’m trying to say is that if millennials like myself make up your current crop of newlyweds, Gen Z will be your next.
As with any effective business, you need to know your audience. Their interests, desires and worries. And, importantly for DJs, their music tastes. But how much do you actually know about Gen Z, beyond the headlines and stereotypes?
Compared to millennials like myself, who grew up in a society that was entering a new digital age, many Gen Zs have grown up in a world completely shaped by the internet. They’re also the most diverse, fluid generation ever (more on this in a minute). For mobile DJs, this means reaching them on new platforms and doing their weddings and events in completely new ways that might depart from tradition.
So, let’s get to know Gen Z a little better by asking these three questions:
Who are they?
Where do they spend time online?
What are they listening to?
