ISSUE: 104(NOV/DEC 2020)
The November / December edition of Pro Mobile is packed with the usual mix of articles, news, views and reviews all linked to the wonderful world of mobile DJing. Featuring a cover image from Harry Meredith of Light It Up Entertainment. The Profile tells the story of Richard Bright AKA DJ Doctor Feelgood. The editorial baton is passed as Eddie Short steps down after 17 years as Editor and Peter Holding prepares to take over! There's a mixture of serious articles addressing the continued impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the mobile DJ industry. DJ Jules Little discusses the current pause on live events and how DJs can get through it. Richard Lee shares a collection of amusing anecdotes in his article, 'It Shouldn't Happen To A Stadium Announcer'. Peter Holding talks to a variety of DJs to find out how they are coping with the impact of COVID-19, while Greg Cartwright discusses how the music of the late Toots Hibbert was instrumental in the emergence of reggae. On a practical note, Anna Goodwin offers tips for getting paid on time and Nigel Colebrook asks the question, playlists: boon or bane? The magazine also includes detailed reviews of the Pioneer DJ CDJ-3000 media player, Peavey Electronics LN1263 Compact Line Array, CHAUVET DJ Hurricane Bubble Haze X2 Q6, Micker Pro UVS microphone steriliser and BishopSound Orion 108A 8" active speaker. You can read all of the reviews and the first part of every article by following the links below, but to read the articles in full and get the complete Pro Mobile experience you’ll need a copy of the physical magazine – click ‘Subscriptions -> Magazine’ above to get hold of one! So, for the very last time from me – and when you are once again able to do so – keep ‘em dancing! Eddie Short, Pro Mobile Editor

Nobody expected COVID-19. After all, a worldwide lockdown is not exactly something you can predict. When I worked for a brief time in a local government communications team we had emergency comms plans for incidents ranging from terror attacks to the death of the Queen – but nothing on communicating through a global pandemic.

In my career I've done almost every DJ-related job there is to do, including working as a Stadium Announcer. A Stadium Announcer is the person you hear over the Tannoy on matchdays at sporting venues reading out the names of each team as well as giving shout-outs for birthdays and other special occasions, and making general announcements.

So, at the time of writing, the Chancellor has just announced that the furlough scheme has been replaced, but - as ever - the support is minimal for the self-employed. It’s looking like 20%, which is government speak for “Your job is not sustainable”. Put simply, they’re not going to support someone with nothing to do! Frightening times indeed for us all.

During my life there have been many constants, far too many to list here but I think of things like love, friendship and, yes, music. There has never been a time in my life, up until now, when it’s not been possible to find a dance floor and tear it up with your best shapes!

After a flurry of email enquiries the client finally says, “Can we book you for our party?” Brilliant, I’m excited at another successfully negotiated booking, but then the client says, “Is it alright to send you a list of songs that we would like you to play?” My heart sinks.

Gogglebox, telly, idiot box, tube, the box, small screen... we all have one and we all refer to it in our own unique way. That electronic wonder that sits in the corner of the room ready to entertain us was first introduced to the world on the 26th of January 1926 by Scottish inventor John Logie Baird. It is of course... Television!
