Peavey Kit Keeps Biffy Clyro Fit For The Festivals

Scottish three-piece rock band Biffy Clyro have played some major live shows in the last twelve months, supporting US rockers the Foo Fighters at Milton Keynes Bowl and opening for Metallica in Bangalore, India.
A hectic and impressive list of festival dates has underlined the band’s ever-growing popularity; they played Glastonbury’s famous Pyramid Stage for the first time, headlined Wakestock Festival in Wales, and hit perhaps their highest point when they topped the bill on day two of the now-annual UK Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park.
To ensure they kept at the top of their game throughout the year, the band decided to deploy a high quality and versatile monitoring system into their rehearsal space, which is located in their hometown of sunny Kilmarnock. Peavey was on hand to find the perfect solution.
“They originally wanted something that would give them eight monitor mixes because one of the options was to have stereo in-ear monitoring. Our primary difficulty was that we didn’t have a product that would do that at a reasonable budget,” reflects Virgil Lund, UK sales development at Peavey. “What we decided to do was to bring in a 16FX mixer, which gave them four monitor mixes, but they could also use the console’s four busses plus the stereo out, so they could creatively manufacture some more mixes from that.”
Along with the 16FX, Peavey supplied five Impulse 1012 monitors with stands, and three PV2600 amplifiers, plus three QF215 graphic EQs and four AmpKit LiNK audio interfaces. To hook everything up, five 25’ PV Speakons, four 5’ PV patches, and a selection of 5’ and 10’ XLR cables were also provided.
“The setup we came up with worked perfectly. Using multiple amplifiers meant they could run the five wedges and any IEM systems simultaneously” Lund explains. “Although we came up with a lower spec than they initially had in mind, it was an affordable and practical solution, and the band was perfectly prepared to make that compromise; they showed a lot of support for the Peavey brand.”
