Seeing Double – Dualize, the New Equinox Effect
As mobile DJs we spend a heck of a lot of time setting up and packing away our gear, which means fewer individual pieces of gear has to be a bonus! This seems to be the thinking behind many of the new DJ lighting effects that are hitting the shops at the moment, including the latest offering from Equinox – the Dualize.

Essentially the Dualize is two LED scanners joined together, sharing a single power cable and DMX cables. Patterns created from a matrix of 128 ultra bright 5mm LEDs are combined with fast moving mirrors to produce a range of stunning effects. Although each individual light-source is just a 5mm LED, the optics mean that the output is deceivingly bright and because of the focused nature of the scanner effect, the Dualize is capable of holding its own when used together with moonflower or barrel effects with halogen lamps.

The Dualize is cased in a robust metal housing with extruded corners, however only weighs a very manageable 4.3Kgs. As we have come to expect from Equinox effects, the Dualize also offers a range of operational options. The effect can run standalone in either sound active or auto modes, while multiple fixtures can be linked together for either master/slave or DMX operation.

A total of 128 LEDs are used to create the variety of patterns projected by the Dualize; these are split between red (64), green (40) and blue (24). The unit requires no duty cycle and therefore can be left to run all night, while the LED light source means that the total power consumption for the entire effect is just 61W!
