The InvincibLED is the latest addition to the ACME range of LED powered DJ lighting effects. It uses six lenses to project a collection of razor sharp beams of light that move and change colour rapidly.
The effect is created by three mirror dishes that are mounted on a rotating axis, which spins them behind the six lenses. The LED light is split by the mirror dishes and then projected through the lenses. This unique mechanism means that each lens appears to be projecting a spinning circle of beams, with the beams moving from lens to lens. When the rotation is slow the groups of beams appear to fade from one set of lenses to the other, but when the rotation speed is increased they appear to jump from one to the other. The use of rotating mirror dishes makes the InvincibLED stand out from the majority of the other LED powered effects on the market, as they rely on changing patterns of LEDs to create the illusion of moving beams. It's good to see an effect that combines the new technology of LEDs with the established technology of rotating mirrors as they add a type of movement that simply can't be created by switching on and off different combinations of LEDs.
As LED technology continues to advance and prices continue to drop, almost every new LED based lighting unit makes use of an even brighter LED. The InvincibLED utilises a single high output 3 watt tri-colour LED, which produces a phenomenal amount of light and also allows multicoloured beams. Although the effect is very powerful, I did find that it doesn't have the same punch as units that use a separate 10mm LED for each beam, when compared side-by-side.
The metallic casing has a familiar design, with black sides and rounded corners finished in dark blue. A metal hanging bracket is located in the middle of the unit, which is secured at either side by plastic thumb screws. The casing is compact and weighing less than 3kg is also very light, making it ideal for mobile DJ use. An IEC link output connection is provided, which is becoming a plus point of all new lighting units to emerge form the ProLight camp. This innovative feature reduces the need for bulky 4-ways on t-bars and allows for tidier setups, which is sure to go down well with upmarket venues and discerning clients.
