Kam DMX Cluster 140 Laser
It is not very often that a new DJ lighting effect comes along that is completely different from everything else on the market. Ideas evolve; existing concepts are improved upon or given a new twist, but rarely does a new effect stand out as uniquely different. However, this is certainly the case with Kam's new DMX Cluster 140. The distinctive effect generated a great deal of interest at November's BPM event and therefore I jumped at the chance to get hold of one and try it out for myself.

The distinctive effect created by the DMX Cluster 140 is the result of projecting two laser diodes (one red and the other green) through something called a 'diffraction grating', which splits the main beams into a collection of separate dimmer beams. I am not completely sure of the technology, but that is irrelevant, what really matters is the end result. The effect is over two hundred laser light beams of varying intensities that swirl and strobe to create a mesmerising effect. The best way that I can think to describe the effect is like a mirror ball on steroids! But this really doesn't do it justice, as the laser light adds an intensity that couldn't be created by a regular light source and the movement is more complex than simple spinning. The varying brightness of each beam means that the projected effect is similar to a clear night sky filled with stars, albeit it green and red stars!

With a wide projection angle of approximately 70° the unit is ideal for pointing up onto walls and ceilings or down onto a dance-floor. The intriguing effect has a unique 3D appearance that is difficult to describe, but impressive to see in action, and is perfect for adding excitement to a dance-floor.
