| Have A Nice Day!
|
We Brits are famous for delivering (or not) disdainful service to customers. There is a little gremlin in our psyche that mocks us if we earn a crust by having to 'serve' someone. The UK is the home of the class system and we workers are finding it hard to shake off the social stigma of making a living as a 'servant'; an occupation that was only one step up from slavery for hundreds of years.
If you've visited the States you'll know that their service industry is tip-driven and it is those dollar bills that motivate the genuine desire to delight the customers. Let's face it, when we are on the receiving end of good service we love it! Getting excellent and friendly service is a genuine treat that makes us all feel good. I have to admit that the first time I heard a waitress call after me "Have a nice day now!" I cringed, but now I look forward to it. It's just as rewarding as someone saying 'please', 'thank you' or the earthy Australian tribute of 'good on ya mate!'
So where does 'service' fit in with running a disco? Well this is definitely a 'service industry' because we don't manufacture anything but acoustic vibrations, hot shoes, sweaty bodies and smiles. But the service is not just about turning up on time at the right venue and spinning the right tracks for a few hours, especially in the current market for mobile DJs which seems to be focussed mainly on 40th birthdays and family celebrations. It's about giving your customer that 'feel good' factor before the event and after it, not just on the night.
