This is something of an unusual review, in fact we couldn't decide if it should be a review or a news item because the product on test is simply a new type of lamp!
n actual fact, the HID-150 from ACME is not simply a new lamp, but it represents a technical innovation that is of particular relevance to mobile DJ lighting. In essence the HID-150 is a discharge lamp that has been mounted to a reflector, which means that it looks very similar to an ELC lamp. The new design combines the focused intensity created by the reflector with the efficient high power light output of a discharge lamp.
Rated at 150watts, the manufacturer claims that the HID-150 is twice as bright as a regular 250watt ELC lamp. Although this is difficult to substantiate, the output from units that use the new lamp are obviously brighter than those fitted with the old technology. In addition to the reduced power usage and increased brightness, the HID-150 has a lamp life of 1000 hours and is very affordable with a SSP of £35.
