Formula Sound PM-80R
Over the last four weeks I have been trying out the new Formula Sound PM-80R Modular Production Mixer. This is a limited edition, which has been manufactured in response to requests from DJs to produce the mixer again, and to celebrate 25 years since the first PM-80 was launched.

The PM-80R incorporates all the best features of the original PM-80 but with the benefits that modern components and manufacturing techniques add. Like the original mixer 4, 8 (19 inch rack mount) and 12 channel input chassis are available

The simplicity of the original design has been maintained along with the outstanding audio quality that set the mixer apart from all others. Unlike many mixers today there are no flashy lights or special effects, just a mixer that is built to the highest standards and produces sound to broadcast quality. The Input Modules are designed to be universal, unlike the original design, which required the changing of modules to suit various sound sources. The modules are now internally configured using gold plated jumper links to accept all types of input source, which provides a simple and reliable configuration method.

Each Input Module has a Studio quality 60mm linear fader together with a Balance / Pan control. Three band equalisation is provided, which can be disabled if desired, giving bass, mid and treble control via three separate pots. The modules are completed by a Gain control, a concealed button for auxillary send and finally a monitor selection button.
The layout of the Input Modules is perfect and it is obvious that Tony Cockell, the designer, knows exactly what he is doing and what the professional DJ needs. The general layout is so operator friendly that it is a breeze to use and connect to your various pieces of audio equipment.
