The Runaway’s Announce Christmas Single
Two former members of all-girl rock group The Runaways have reunited for a Christmas single, their first collaboration in around 35 years.
Cherie Currie and Lita Ford achieved fame back in the 1970s with hits such as ‘Cherry Bomb’, ‘Queens OF Noise’, ‘California Paradise’ and ‘Dead End Justice’ amongst others. The duo, who were lead singer and lead guitarist respectively will release ‘Rock This Christmas Down’ later in the year.
Ford admitted that prior to the recording, herself and Currie hadn’t spoken for “quite a long, long time" and it was Ford’s former drummer Rodger Carter who suggested they create a festive track together. "I got out a pen and paper, and I thought, 'Let's rock this Christmas down'," she recalled. "[Later] I said, 'Cherie, why don't you sing it with me?' So she flew in [to Encino, California] ... and came straight from the airport to the studio, cut the vocal track, and we have a Christmas single with me and Cherie singing lead vocals."
The group were together for just 3 and a half years, with lead singer Cherie joining at the tender age of 15. After the biopic starring Twilight actress Kirsten Stewart came out in 2010, several members wanted to reconcile and release new material. Stewart starred as guitarist Joan Jett who, so far, has refused to rejoin the group. Ford, who has long pushed for a reunion, discussed a possible comeback, "I think we should start writing songs and I think it would be great," she told Metalshrine last year. "But we can't do it without Joan, you know." Joan recently said “"I'm very protective of [that time] because it was very special to me. It would be fun for people to see, but you've got to remember we're not who we were in 1976 ... The downside is bigger than the upside."
