Bob Dylan Portraits Housed In Gallery
Portraits by legendary musician Bob Dylan will go on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London next month.
A series of 12 pastel works, a mixture of real and fictitious characters, collectively named ‘Bob Dylan: Face Value’ will go on show in September. The artwork has been created by Dylan himself, who has been sketching since childhood but only recently showed his work publicly. The 72 year old has been praised by art historian John Elderfield who describes his work as, “products of the same extraordinary, inventive imagination".
The director of the National Portrait Gallery, Sandy Nairne, added: "Bob Dylan is one of the most influential cultural figures of our time. He has always created a highly visual world either with his words or music, or in paints and pastels."
Dylan is no stranger to recognition outside his musical endeavours. In 2008, the Halycon Gallery in London featured drawings and sketches from periods on the road between 1989 and 1992. In June, the veteran singer was nominated for France’s top distinction, the Legion d'Honneur, and was also made an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
