The BRIT Awards 2012 Results
The BRITS were held last night at the O2 arena London and included unsurprising winners and a very rude finger gesture.
This year was the year of Adele, after her amazing night at the Grammys she then went on to win two BRIT Awards, including ‘British Female Solo Artist’ and the much coveted ‘Best Album’. However her moment of glory was cut short after just 49 seconds when presenter James Corden ended her speech because of ‘timing issues’, Adele saw red and gestured to the ITV ‘suits’. Both James Corden and ITV later apologised, although they still stood by their decision to cut her off saying “The Brits is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over-running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption.”
Dramas aside, other winners included Ed Sheeran who also won two awards for ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ and ‘British Male Solo Artist’. The ‘British Group’ award went to Coldplay who also performed at the show, this marks their seventh BRIT win since the band formed in 1996. ‘International Female Solo Artist’ went to Rihanna which, unless you have been living on Mars, will not be a shocker! Other international winners include Bruno Mars for ‘Male Solo Artist’, Lana Del Ray for ‘Breakthrough Act’ and Foo Fighters for ‘Group’.
Perhaps one hint of surprise is One Direction winning ‘British Single’ for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, with competition including the likes of Jessie J, Pixie Lott and ‘Queen Adele’, some might say it was an unusual result. Emeil Sandé was awarded first place in the ‘Critic’s Choice’ cateogory, behind Maverick Sabre (2nd) and Michael Kiwanuka (3rd). The award for best ‘British Producer’ went to Ethan Johns and the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ accolade was bestowed on Indie band Blur who performed three of their hits to close the live TV broadcast.
