Pioneer DDJ-WeGO3 Lets Mobile DJs Mix Direct from Spotify
Pioneer DJ has this month released its DDJ-WeGO3 – a DJ console that lets DJs mix music directly from Spotify and iTunes on their iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

Satisfying the needs of DJs on the move and those just starting out, the DDJ-WeGO3 is the latest controller in the DDJ-WeGO series; offering an intuitive layout and access to the user’s digital collections, while remaining easy to use and portable.

For beginner DJs, the console’s buttons and dials are arranged around the jog wheels, making them easily accessible. The Pulse Control lights, meanwhile, help guide amateurs through their first performances; with the Launch Pulse light moving from the ‘load’ button to the jog wheel to indicate when a track has loaded and the FX Pulse lights showing which effects and filters are engaged.

Despite being designed for use with smart phones and tablets, the DDJ-WeGO3 still offers an ‘authentic’ DJing experience – steering clear of the touch screen – with the jog wheels and other controls allowing DJs to mix and scratch in a realistic manner. The controller can be connected easily to any iOS device running Algoriddim’s djay 2 or vjay apps, which let DJs use the jog wheels, buttons and dials to perform their sets using tracks from their Spotify or iTunes libraries. For those DJs not wishing to use a tablet device or smart phone, the DDJ-WeGO3 can also be used with PC/Mac using Virtual DJ 8, Serato DJ Intro or djay (Mac only).

Where the DDJ-WeGO3 really differs from its predecessors is its design; having gained a durable aluminium top plate and being available in black or white, the console makes for a stylish piece of kit. Mobile DJs will enjoy the light weight of the unit (1.8kg) and DJs on the move may find the size especially appealing; compact enough to fit into a backpack, the DDJ-WeGO3 is easy to transport and enables DJs to give spontaneous performances. The product also includes a built-in sound card, high quality sound design for clear sound reproduction, and the device stand doubles as a grip for carrying.

Besides giving DJs more freedom in their musical choice and being portable and simple to use, the console comes with a number of advanced features also found in Pioneer’s pro-DJ products, including Beat Sync, loops and dedicated buttons for triggering the sound effects and samples offered by the Algoriddim software.

When it isn’t running off the mains, DJs can power the DDJ-WeGO3 via a USB connection to PC/Mac or a USB battery pack, making the unit portable and easy to keep running. When plugged into the mains, the console will also charge a DJ’s device while it plays, reducing the chance of them losing power and therefore access to their music.

Reducing the limitations of portable, on-the-fly DJing, the DDJ-WeGO3 allows DJs to choose and mix tracks from the near-endless catalogues found on Spotify and iTunes, as well as offering an intuitive layout for easier control. DJs on the move, or those just starting out, may find that the Pioneer DDJ-WeGO3 gives them the winning combination of portability and accessibility that they need.
