Mastermix Issue 335: Mixes & Mash-ups For All Occasions!
Issue 335 is the latest edition of the flagship DJ only release from Mastermix which features two discs of exclusive mixes, remixes, mash ups and extended floor-fillers created especially for mobile and commercial club/bar DJs. The compilation includes modern day chart hits as well as music from decades gone by, making it ideal for almost any event.

The first disc kicks off with ‘Chart Breakers’, a four track mix that combines cheesy pop with an electro-funky style, which is a failsafe way to launch a musical introduction to any party. Starting with upbeat, feel-good vibes from DJ Cassidy’s ‘Calling All Hearts’, it moves on to a smoother dance feel with gentle vocals from Keisza adding emotion. The Saturdays then take the flow back to more of a pop vibe with ‘Not Giving Up’, but the mix still maintains the dance feel at the same time. Concluding the prologue to this journey of mixes, mash-ups and remixes, The Wanted reach out to a wide selection of listeners with ‘Glow in the Dark’.

Next up is ‘Pop Dance’, a commercial dance megamix that starts with pleasant water droplet-like beats that lead us in to the infectious toe tapping and jazzy sounds of Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau’s ‘Changes’. Following on from this rhythmic arrangement to a heavier and more aggressive drum sound is Martin Garrix & Jay Hardway’s ‘Wizard’, which will cast robotic electric spells over the dance-floor. The fluctuation in melody behind the heavy bass line means you can’t tell if you’re coming or going. Careering on to John Martin’s ‘Anywhere For You’, the energy continues to flow, at this point less harsh and with more emotion. The mix then moves on to Cash Cash feat. Bebe Rexha, generating summertime vibes with ‘Take Me Home’, with its softer, more fluid sound that contrasts with Martin Garrix’s ‘Wizard’ well. The final track in the mix is ‘Addicted To You’ by Avicii which rounds out this selection well – perfect for if you find yourself presented with a young audience who want a modern selection of electronic dance tracks.

‘Pop Party’ features some of the most recent hits from the pop world. Jason Derulo opens this segment with an R&B flavour singing ‘Stupid Love’, before 5 Seconds Of Summer drive the party into a typical boy band mode – perfect for capturing the attention of a younger crowd of giggling girls! Moving on to ‘Heaven Knows’ by The Pretty Reckless, which features a sample that sounds extremely similar to ‘I Love Rock and Roll’ and Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’. This is bound to draw in all generations to enjoy the party and music in unison. The Vamps’ ‘Last Night’ then shifts to a slower-moving but fun bopping and swaying feel, which maintains the steady flow. This section is completed with ‘Fancy’ by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX, which has a contrasting female rap element and catchy chorus – similar to the style and sound of Gwen Stefani.

The first of this Issue’s Triple Trackers is up next, ‘Urban Party Drop’, which blends together heavy hip-hop and blasting beats. Jay-Z and Kanye West’s ‘Ni**as In Paris’ will bring a surge of thunder to any floor packed with an older teenage or younger adult crowd. Guaranteed to get the party moving this mix then pushes on to Labrinth and Tinie Tempah’s ‘Earthquake’ which will leave the explosion of party energy at its highest point. Tinie Tempah’s ‘Pass Out’ will then have the room bopping and hip hopping, finger stabbing and brap-brapping! ‘The Urban Party Drop’ is filled with heavy ‘bangers’ that will bring any urban party to its peak.

The disc closes with two quirky mash-ups. The first, ‘Weezer vs. fun.’, has a chilled rap vibe, mixing together ‘Beverly Hills’ by Weezer with ‘We Are Young’ by fun. featuring Janelle Monae. The second is ‘Frankie Knuckles vs. Florence and The Machine’, a tribute to the late Frankie Knuckles who had a massive influence on the origins of house music, which echoes throughout this mix. Florence and the Machine’s vocals from ‘You’ve Got The Love’ add heavy emotion to the distinctive house sound of Knuckles’ ‘Your Love’, making it an ideal track to end the night for a crowd who were there ‘back in the day’.

Opening disc two is a smooth blend of hip-hop and rap on ‘The Wedding Playlist Part.1’, which is guaranteed to get a typical party hip swaying and arm waving. Soft and mellow rap tracks, dating back to the nineties and even further, bring together nostalgia with jokey and playful tones. Tracks include Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Ini Kamoze’s ‘Here Comes The Hotstepper’ and ‘Walk this Way’ by Run DMC and Aerosmith. Being easily recognisable tracks, with danceable urban beats, this mix should draw in the old crowd as well as the young.

‘Back To 1998: Dance’ packs 12 dance tracks from ’98 into a blistering 14 minute mix guaranteed to bring a crowd to your dance floor, particularly if their prime years were the nineties. Ideal for thirtieth birthdays and weddings alike, with some absolute bangers like ‘God Is A DJ’ by Faithless and ‘Let Me Show You’ by Camisra, this is the perfect selection to allow children of the nineties to re-live ‘reaching for the lasers’.

‘80s Summer Euro Party’ brings together six ‘Euro trash’ tunes from the eighties kicking off with ‘Tarzan Boy’ from Baltimora and ending with ‘Boys (Summertime Love)’ by Sabrina. The cheesy filling sandwiched in between includes tracks from Modern Talking, Ryan Paris and Spagna.

The Triple Trackers on this disc are ‘70s Party’ and ‘Pop Dance’. The cheese fest that is ‘70s Party’ is the ideal mix to fill the floor with ‘oldies’ (who think they’re ‘youngies’). It blends together three classic floor-fillers from the disco decade: ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba, the Bee Gees’ anthem ‘Stayin’ Alive’ and the Nolans’ unmistakable ‘I’m In The Mood For Dancing’. Meanwhile, ‘Pop Dance’ brings the disc back to the present day with tracks from Duke Dumont, DJ Cassidy and Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau.

Wrapping up this May compilation of DJ-only material is an extended version of a current floor-filler. 5 Seconds Of Summer’s ‘She Looks So Perfect’ has been re-worked by the Mastermix producers to run for exactly five minutes of feel-good pop-rock fun!

Issue 335 is available now from Mastermix on digital download or CD priced at £18.38, while individual mixes can also be purchased and downloaded separately.
