Mark Ferrell Unable to Attend the NADJ Conference
The NADJ has announced that, due to unforeseen circumstances, guest speaker Mark Ferrell (who runs the MarBecca DJ training workshops with his wife Rebecca) will no longer be delivering his ‘Getting What You’re Worth’ seminar at the NADJ Conference, which takes place this Sunday at Dukes Meadows, Chiswick.

After waiting for the couple to arrive at Heathrow Airport over the Easter Bank Holiday, Secretary Alan Marshall discovered that they were being held in custody by UK Border Control and refused entry over a technicality – despite having visited the UK to deliver workshops on two previous occasions. Whilst the NADJ has highlighted the fact that Mark and Rebecca used the correct channels to ensure their visit was official and eligible, the couple were confronted with “something that was outside of our [the NADJ’s] and their control” when it came to them entering the UK on a work permit. All efforts and appeals (including those on behalf of the NADJ) were dismissed by the UK Border Control before the guest speakers were kept in custody for ten hours, questioned, and ultimately forced to return home to the USA.

"Please accept our most humble and heartfelt apologies for having to cancel our seminar,” Mark Ferrell told attendees ahead of Sunday’s conference. “We were so very much looking forward to meeting the team from the NADJ who are organising the conference and we were looking forward to meeting more Professional DJs to pass on the contents of the ‘Getting What You're Worth’ seminar. We do hope that we will have that opportunity another time.”

Meanwhile, Paul Arnett, NADJ Chairman, has been working with the NADJ conference team to source new content, in light of losing the event’s headline speaker. “We realise people have made plans in order to be with us this coming weekend and we are going to ensure that there's worthwhile content for them to see. We also realise that some people may be out of pocket and to this end, anyone who has paid to reserve a place will be refunded their money. They will also be allowed free entry to the conference as a gesture of goodwill, where there will be DJ related content that may help their business or skills,” Paul explained. “We hope you will understand that this situation is outside of our control and that all efforts are being made to make the conference a success. The volunteers at the NADJ, Mark and Rebecca are all, as you can imagine, in a state of shock and disbelief.”

The NADJ are continuing to work towards the conference and will release more details regarding new content over the next few days. The NADJ Conference and AGM takes place on the 27th of April at Dukes Meadows and offers DJs a day of education and networking with other professional DJs.
