Beatpad Controller Allows Easy Addition of Apple to the Mix
Visitors to last year’s BPM exhibition were there for the announcement of Reloop’s first professional DJ controller for iPad; the Reloop Beatpad. The new iOS controller – which is primarily designed for use with the Algoriddim DJAY iOS app – is now available, giving mobile DJs the ability to control their mix using any generation of iPad, iPhone, or iPod.

With its integrated 4-channel USB audio interface, the Beatpad gives users numerous control elements in order to utilise the plug-n-play DJAY app, including dedicated filters per channel, push encoders for effects and loops, and a multifunctional drum pad section with Performance Mode. The performance section of the Beatpad offers users a number of creative mixing possibilities, including setting up to four hot cue points per deck and using the Bounce Loop mode to cut a loaded track into single loop sequences on the fly. Allowing users to add samples into a playing mix, the Performance Mode section can easily be switched to become a full blown DJ sampler and, whilst in Instant FX mode, the four drum pads offer users the ability to trigger effect macros at the touch of a button.

The controller uses 30-pin and 8-pin Lightning Adaptors (included) to charge the user’s device and (via USB) can also be used as a MIDI controller for any DJ software (on PC or Mac). Two headphone connections (3.5mm and 1/4” jack) are located on the front of the unit, while two master outputs (XLR and RCA) as well as an auxiliary jack input can be found on the back of the device. Reloop have also paid some thought to the increasing prominence of wireless DJing solutions, equipping the Beatpad with the capacity for wireless sound transmission to compatible speakers.

In terms of appearance, the Beatpad has the same distinctive look as the other controllers in the Reloop range; and users will recognise the high-grade aluminium Trax Encoder, which allows comfortable browsing of an iTunes library. The multi-coloured LED borders on the 15cm vinyl grip jog wheels offer users precision visual feedback on the position of the virtual needle as well as current effect and loop modulations, whilst chunky 100mm pitch-faders make manual beat-matching easier.

Look out for a review of the Reloop Beatpad in the next issue of Pro Mobile (65 – May/June 2014).
