Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
700+ people have cast their votes for who they want to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens and Nirvana are just a few of the big name artists who have been selected.
6 names were included as a result of the public vote, with 3 more being added by a special selections committee. The final list selected features: Cat Stevens, Linda Rondstadt, Hall & Oates, Peter Gabriel, Nirvana & KISS. Linda Ronstadt has been eligible since 1994 but never nominated, Hall & Oates have also been eligible since 1997 and Peter Gabriel since 2002.
Cat Stevens (now known as Yusuf Islam) has waited the longest, having been eligible since 1991, a huge 25 years after his first recording and a previous nomination in 2006. The only other nominee to be previously up for the induction is KISS (pictured below) who were voted in 2010. Peter Gabriel is being inducted for the 1st time, however he was honoured in 2002 as a member of Genesis.
Hall & Oates manager Jonathan Wolfson spoke on behalf of the duo, “Both Daryl and John are pleased to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Without the efforts of our fans, this would not have happened”.
Several other artists were nominated, but did not make it into the final selection, for Paul Butterfield Blues Band it was their third nomination, Deep Purple (second), LL Cool J (third) and for Chic it was their eighth nomination.
The Ahmet Ertegun lifetime achievement award (which is given to non-performers) will go to Beatles manager Brian Epstein and Rolling Stones manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham. Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street brand will also receive the Award of Musical Excellence. The induction ceremony will take place in Brooklyn, New York on April 10th 2014.
