Slade Release Album
Cashing in on their recurring Christmas fame, Slade have announced that they will be releasing their first studio album for 27 years in 2014.
Singer Noddy Holder and bass player Jim Lea left the band in 1992, however fellow members Dave Hill (guitarist) and Don Powell (drums) recruited bassist John Berry in 2003 and Mal McNulty on vocals in 2005. Since then the new group hasn’t released any new material, choosing to perform solely as a live act with previous tracks.
Powell announced in a radio interview recently, “In the New Year we're going to take some time out, will get some songs together between the four of us and expect to have a new studio album. And we'll go out on tour with it.” He also disappointed fans who were hoping to catch a glimpse of Holder reunited with the band, “I've got to be honest, Nod will never sing again, he's had a think, and he's had enough and doesn't want it. I would love to be proved wrong, but I don't think so.”
Noddy Holder MBE, who is now 67, helped to form the band in the early 70s, originally billed as ‘‘N Betweeners’, before changing the name to ‘Ambrose Slade’ in 1969, and eventually just Slade after meeting their Animals bass player-manager Chas Chandler.
Slade achieved 5 top 20 albums including ‘Slade Alive’, ‘Slayed’, ‘Old New Borrowed and Blue’, ‘Slade In Flame’ and Nobody’s Fools’. They had six no. 1 singles including the festive favourite ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’, ‘Coz I Luv You’, ‘Take Me Back 'Ome’, ‘Mama Were All Crazee Now’ and ‘Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me’.
