Industry Tributes to Seb Knowles Flood Social Media
As we are sure many of you are aware, Seb Knowles (26) – a well-known and much-respected DJ – sadly passed away during the early hours of last Friday (the 1st of May), after a road collision on the M40 in Buckinghamshire. Since then, tributes have been pouring in across social media sites.

After starting out performing in local discos at the age of just 14, Seb went on to become a successful DJ playing in bars and clubs across London as DJ Sparky B. Diversely talented, Seb’s career also involved work as a radio presenter, and, throughout his life, he continued to DJ at high profile events across the UK.

Clive Hodghton, an industry retailer and long-time friend of Seb’s, posted a fitting tribute through his Facebook page: “I know of no one who has ever, ever had a bad word for him! Seb’s laugh, smile and sheer love of life was totally infectious […] We’ve all lost an utterly amazing man. Truly one of the world’s best, most positive, exciting, inspiring, brilliant gentlemen that I have ever had the pleasure to meet, let alone have the honour of calling my very close friend.”

Each and every one of us at Pro Mobile would like to send our sincere condolences to Seb’s family and friends. Pro Mobile would also like to take this opportunity to ask its readers to take care when driving home from gigs, especially late at night when fatigue and tiredness can affect the awareness of all road users.

Sleepiness reduces reaction time, alertness, concentration and decision making – all crucial driving skills. When making a long journey, it’s advised that you plan to take a 15-minute break for every two hours of driving. You should also try to avoid long trips between midnight and 6am, which is when we naturally feel more tired. If you are already tired, it’s recommended that you don’t start a long trip. Finally, if you are driving and do begin to feel sleepy, you should find a safe place to stop; drink two cups of coffee or a high-caffeine drink; and rest for 10-15 minutes to let the caffeine take effect. However, the only cure for sleepiness is proper sleep – a short nap or caffeine drink is a temporary solution that will only allow you to keep driving safely for a short time.*

In the next issue of Pro Mobile, Mark Walsh will aim to raise awareness surrounding these issues in an article focusing on driving tired. This will include looking at ways mobile DJs can plan their journeys to and from events and how to include hotel stays within their fees.
